"Put simply, this ebook teaches you how to cook. Instead of providing hundreds of recipes to follow that explain nothing of the reasons behind each decision, Eat Better On A Budget teaches you to think more like a chef. It walks through the basics that most books gloss over so you can set yourself and your kitchen up for success with thorough descriptions and clear diagrams. It then shows how thinking in this way can improve your efficiency and save you money through careful purchasing, cross-utilization of ingredients and making delicious food!"

"There is nothing more frustrating than trying to follow a recipe (or plan) that assumes you have some underlying knowledge that everyone else seems to have. Thank God this book goes back to basics for those of us who avoid the kitchen most of the time. Now when my husband needs a break from cooking, I have more to offer than ordering take out!"

Still Not Sure? Let's Tackle Your FAQs

Eat Better on a Budget is for people like you who want to save money by cooking at home, those who struggle with eating out more than they should and for people who aren’t as confident as they’d like to be in a kitchen.  We’ve distilled the core principles of organizing your kitchen, 5 core cooking skills, lists, tools and templates into a fun and easy to read ebook.

For most people, food is the 3rd largest monthly expense behind housing and transportation.  Cooking at home is the best way to save money every month because the cost of groceries is far less expensive than the cost of prepared food at restaurants.

Exact savings per person or household are impossible to calculate since everyone’s budget and costs are different.  However, we’ve provided estimates based on a recent study*.  See below.

Eat Better on a Budget is available via PDF, Kindle, and iBook.

We wrote Eat Better on a Budget for 3 key reasons.

  1. We’re passionate about food and we know saving money on food every month can have a significant impact on anyone’s budget. We want to dispel the myth that eating on a budget is an unpleasant experience. By improving your cooking skills, you can enjoy better meals at home using inexpensive ingredients
  2. We identified a gap in personal finance and ‘cookbooks. Most ‘money’ books mention how important cooking at home is but don’t provide any details on how. Most cookbooks are focused on specialty diets and cuisines but very few are about teaching people how to cook BETTER so they can save money
  3. The debt payoff and wealth building journey can be challenging.  By eating BETTER  on that journey, you’ll be more encouraged to stick to your budget and feel less deprived.

Recipes tell you what to make, but they don’t teach you how to cook.  This is why so many people end up with a bunch of ‘stuff’ in the refrigerator and pantry but don’t feel like they have anything to eat.  When you know how to cook and how to utilize ingredients more widely, you won’t need recipes.

We don’t provide any recipes in this book because there are thousands of sites and cookbooks where you can find recipes and dozens of meal subscription services.  Our goal is to help you get BETTER results out of what you already have.

The book is just under 120 pages long including covers, lists, templates and imagery. For you frugal nerds out there, that’s about 18¢ per page.

Before Mr. r&R was a money blogger, he was a formally trained and working chef. He’s cooked in kitchens at world-class luxury hotels, fine dining and casual-fine dining restaurants for years! He’s also cooked at home for the last two decades and has eaten his way around the US and top culinary destinations around the world.
